Florence van der Hoven
As research scientist, Florence researches and develops new technologies to assess the quality of urban green space by combining ground-truth data with high-resolution satellite imagery.
Next to her passion for nature and sustainability, Florence’s life-long love for puzzles developed into a special interest in modelling and programming. With this combination she hopes to solve many environmental sustainability issues in the future. Starting with her current research, where she aims to link park characteristics to differences in ecosystem services (such as cooling and air purification) between urban parks and their surrounding neighborhoods.
Florence holds a degree in Biology (BSc) with specialisations in ecology, theoretical biology and molecular (plant) biology. Currently she’s following the Future Planet Ecosystem Science track of the MSc Earth Sciences, where she focuses on challenges of human-ecosystem interactions, urban ecology and spatial modelling.
